The article is dedicate the problems of public ownership under market economy. Theoretical and methodological grounds for the role of public ownership and public sector in market economy are presented. Structural elements and factors promoting the eggiciency of market operation are determined. Directions and regularities in the development of public ownership under market transformations are outlined.
